Champion of the Month: November 2021

Congratulations to Abby, aged 11, who has been named as the LFC Foundation Champion of the Month for November!

Abby, a participant in LFC Foundation Game On programme, was nominated by Jamie Henderson, Game On Coordinator at the LFC Foundation. Jamie said “Abby has made great steps recently through the Game On Programme. The LFC Foundation have been delivering a six-week programme in Abby’s school alongside the Liverpool Harriers Athletics Club. Abby has stood out during the six weeks by excelling in Athletics. Due to her performance in the school programme, Abby was asked to trial for the Liverpool Harriers to join part of their development group where she impressed the coaches and was invited to join the club. Abby now trains with the Harriers twice a week and is making big strides with her athletic development and is hoping to start competing in the coming months.

Emma, Abby’s mum, added “When the LFC Foundation and Liverpool Harriers attended Abby’s school, each week she would talk about how much fun they would have in their PE lesson and how much she was enjoying a different sport each week.  When she was asked to attend a trial for the Liverpool Harriers she was excited but nervous. She performed really well and was pleased when they accepted her into their club. Since joining the Harriers her love of athletics has grown and so has her confidence. That is with the help of Paul also who is a fantastic coach and mentor. We’re looking forward to the year ahead and to see how she achieves and watch her confidence grow even more in the sport.”

Abby said “I am very happy with all the things that the LFC Foundation and Liverpool Harriers have done with us. Since I’ve joined the Harriers, I have become more confident with my running techniques. I have learned a great variety of skills, thanks to the amazing coaches, who have been so supportive. I am very thankful for what they have done with us, I will continue with my running at the Liverpool Harriers and hope to develop further.”

Abby is a year 6 student at Our Lady’s Catholic Primary School in Prescot.  Abby’s teacher Louise says “Abby has played a very active role in our programme with the LFC Foundation and the Liverpool Harriers. She is a shining example of a true team player. She has shown commitment and enthusiasm throughout the six weeks and has been recruited as a new member of the sprinting team at the Liverpool Harriers, training with the club twice a week. A great role model Abby – well done!”

Jamie also added “Abby is a fantastic young individual who has a great attitude to sport. She is supportive of everyone and works incredibly hard. She has really benefitted from the Game On programme as it has allowed her to show her talents to coaches from Liverpool Harriers and she can now develop and reach her full athletic potential.”

The Game On Programme is delivered across schools and community settings across the Liverpool City Region in partnership with the Premier League and Nike.

The aim is to provide opportunities for young people to participate in new sports, identify talent and create a pathway into local sports clubs. The programme also has a key objective of removing as many barriers to participation of sport for our young people by ensuring all sessions are free to access for all and deliver in many areas of the region including Liverpool, Sefton, Knowsley & Wirral.

Well done!
