30k New Funding Secured for LFC Foundation’s Military Veterans Programme

The LFC Foundation’s Military Veterans project aims to support and re-engage ex-military service men and women back into civilian life through the power of football.

The programme is funded by the LFC Match Day Lottery, including a recent successful funding bid of £30,000 from The Veterans Foundation (£20,000) and The Military Covenant (£10,000).

The Military Veteran’s programme began in November 2012 and has achieved its aim of engaging, sustaining and retaining over 50 participants over the past 9 years. The growth and extensive contacts that have been made in this time are considerable, with this programme being the most successful of its type in the country.

Recent accolades include a convincing 6-1 win against a Navy Medics team in the final of an Armed Forces Day tournament hosted by Everton in the Community during the summer.

Liverpool FC was the first football club to sign the Military Covenant and has continued to carry out its commitment with professionalism and honesty.

Through football specific activity and collaborative partners, which includes the Liverpool Veterans Headquarters and Liverpool City council, the programme has been able to provide a comprehensive approach to physical health and general wellbeing.

This increased revenue allows the Foundation to continue our pivotal work in the community and to become more engaged with veteran’s families, aged veterans, females, and veterans in custody. Alongside this, the funding also allowed us to deliver weekly boxing fitness sessions and facilitate mental health awareness days.

We have been showing our support for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal alongside both LFC and LFC Women at their home fixtures on Saturday 30th October and Sunday 7th November.

The Foundation received 28 tickets for participants on our Military Veterans programme to attend the Liverpool vs Brighton and Hove Albion game. A huge thank you to Standard Chartered Bank and Carlsberg for the ticket donation.
