‘Parents in Sport Week’, which runs from 4th - 10th October, is a national awareness raising campaign run by the NSPCC that aims to highlight the important role parents play in the bigger safeguarding picture of sport.
This year’s ‘Parents in Sport Week’ campaign is focused on getting the right information and resources to parents to enhance their knowledge, so that they can play their part and keep their child safe in sport.
Red’s midfielder, James Milner, who is a long-standing Ambassador for the NSPCC, is lending his voice to ‘Parents in Sport Week’ by encouraging parents to access the charity’s free resources and available support via social media.
The LFC Foundation, which is the only Premier League football club foundation to hold an official partnership with NSPCC, will also be engaging with parents at all of their relevant sessions throughout the week and promoting the NSPCC’s e-learning course as well as sharing content across its social media platforms.
Matt Parish, chief executive, LFC Foundation, said: “We are proud to be supporting our partner NSPCC with their ‘Parents in Sport Week’ campaign and it’s fantastic to see James using his profile to help raise awareness of the campaign and reach more parents and families.
“Safeguarding is such an important aspect of sport, and by empowering parents with the knowledge they need to spot the signs of abuse, we can work together to help make sport a safer place for children and young people.”
Some of this year’s ‘Parents in Sport Week’ resources include:
- A new, short, interactive e-learning course for parents to learn about what poor practice and abuse might look like in sport, who they can turn to for help and what sports clubs should already do to protect children.
- The NSPCC CPSU’s re-launched Parents Hub A one-stop-shop for parents seeking further information about how they can keep their child safe in sport.
